Congratulations to the following Grafton High School students for their first place winning entries in the PTA Reflections “Within Reach” Art Competition.
Emma Bryant for Dance Choreography
Brian Choi for Literature
Davon King for Photography
Hannah McAllister for Visual Arts
Thank you also to the 35 GHS students who submitted entries into this year’s Reflections Program and shared their interpretation of what was “within reach” through their artistic medium of choice. Your artistic talent, creativity, and attention to detail was evident in each of the entries we received.
The National PTA Reflections program encourages students to explore the arts and express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Since it was founded in 1969 by Mary Lou Anderson, millions of students have benefited from this program.
This year’s Reflections theme is “Within Reach” and any GHS Student can create theme-based artwork in dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography or visual arts for submission. The visual arts category allows students to enter three-dimensional artworks in addition to the traditional 2D entries.
All PTA Reflections program entries are judged on three criteria:
- Interpretation of Theme (20 pts.)
- Creativity (10 pts.)
- Technique (10 pts.)
Notice how heavily “Interpretation of Theme” is weighted? This is what makes the National PTA Reflections Arts Program unique. A well-developed concept is more important than technique.
The official rules with student entry form can be found at the link at the top of this page.
ALL forms accompanying student entries MUST be COMPLETELY FILLED out.
The due date for GHS Student submissions is October 30, 2017. Submissions should be placed in the Reflections Bin located in the main office. No entries will be accepted past the deadline.
